St Kitts & Nevis: Another no confidence motion filed against the Douglas administration

Friday, July 5, 2013

St. Kitts & Nevis Prime Minister Denzil Douglas

The Opposition in St. Kitts & Nevis has withdrawn a court challenge to the delay in the tabling of the Motion of No Confidence vote in the Douglas administration, and the People’s Action Movement (PAM) party leader Shawn Richards has announced that he filed a second Motion of No Confidence in the government on Wednesday.

Six of the eleven elected Members of Parliament eligible to vote on the Motion had filed a case with the Court arguing that the delay in its tabling violated their constitutional rights.

The Speaker of the House and Government had been maintaining that as long as a matter related to the Motion was before the Court it could not be tabled.

The Opposition is now contending that the Government has absolutely no reason not to table the Motion. Prime Minister Denzil Douglas is currently out of the country.

The next parliament session is slated for Monday July 8.
