Seahawks buck the Broncos to win Superbowl 2014
What was supposed to be a clash of titans, between the Seahawks and the Broncos, ended up being a beat down of epic proportion in which the Seahawks securing a 43-8 victory over the Broncos in Super Bowl 2014.
The Seahawks’ defence stifled the Bronco throughout most of the game and even held the Broncos without a first down until late into the first half (at the 20th minute of the game). Seattle took advantage of Denver’s hapless plays, on both defence and offence, to score at will.
The “Legion of Boom” brought back memories of the video game, Streetfighter, where the character, Guile, would throw well placed Sonic Booms at his opponent to catch him off guard. Just like that epic game, Seattles defence left the Broncos with no chance to maneuver and caught Manning off guard at every turn which was evident by the four turnovers Denver made.
Although this was the first Super Bowl championship, and second Super Bowl appearance, for the Seattle franchise, this team looked and played like a team who makes regular trips to the marquee event. In fact, the Seahawks struck quickly in each half, scoring points at the 12-second mark in each. They drew first blood when they scored a safety on the game’s first play from scrimmage when Denver’s snap went over quarterback Peyton Manning’s head and the Broncos fell on the ball in the end zone.
The Seahawks, looked to have this game in the bag when they led 22-0 by halftime. However, the Seahawks still continued to punish the Broncos with their amazing plays. The Seahawk defence intercepted two Manning passes in the first half and Manning’s second interception, on a terrible pass after his arm was hit by Seattle defensive end Cliff Avril, was returned 69 yards for a touchdown by linebacker Malcolm Smith.
Unfortunately, Denver’s only touchdown came at the last play of the third quarter when Manning connected with wide receiver Demaryius Thomas for a 14-yard touchdown pass. The touchdown was followed with a two-point conversion pass to Wes Welker making the score, at the time, 36-8. However, that would be the only bright spot for Denver as they ended up being dominated 43-8 by the Seahawks who celebrated their first Superbowl Championship.
