Haiti: Michel Martelly recovering after medical scare

Martelly flew to Miami on April 16 after he complained of chest pains. His office said doctors diagnosed him with a blood clot that stemmed from an earlier operation on his right shoulder. The surgery was apparently needed because of pain to his arm from years of performing as a musician.

Doctors performed a similar operation on his left shoulder in November, also in Miami.

Martelly spent more than two decades performing under the stage name as “Sweet Micky” before he turned to politics. Next month, he completes the first year of his five-year presidential term.
