Former NBA star Kevin Johnson re-elected as Sacramento mayor

Former National Basketball Association star point guard Kevin Johnson has won a second term as mayor of Sacramento.

With all the precincts reporting, Johnson was ahead with 58 percent of the vote as of Wednesday morning to 24 percent for his next closest opponent, Jonathan Rewers.

Johnson said he was deeply humbled by the opportunity and will continue to fight hard to get new faces on the City Council. During his first term, Johnson struggled to win over some council members to his ideas, including an attempt to grant the mayor more authority.

His first term was also marked by an effort to keep the Sacramento Kings in the city and negotiate a deal for a new arena for the team.
