Dominica: Speaker Alix Boyd-Knights withdraws from Presidential bid

Dominica Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit Wednesday confirmed that the Speaker of the Dominica Parliament, Alix Boyd-Knights has requested that her name to be withdrawn as a candidate for the post of President of Dominica.

Skerrit, in an interview with the state-owned DBS radio, said that “ I can’t force the presidency on anybody” and that while she had accepted the nomination initially, she had become concerned about the safety of her family.

He said as a result, the government has now nominated former senior public servant, Jennifer Wallace La Fond, who has accepted the nomination.

The current term of office of President Eluid Williams, who was appointed last year to complete the term of then president Nicholas Liverpool, who resigned because of ill-health, comes to an end in October. -(CMC)
