Attorney general nominee Loretta Lynch faces tough test in U.S. Senate
White House spokesman Josh Earnest blasted Senate Republicans, telling reporters: “There is not a single legitimate question that has been raised about her aptitude for this job.”
The fate of the human trafficking legislation, along with Lynch’s nomination, could become clearer after Senate procedural votes on the bill on Tuesday.
Republican Senator John Cornyn of Texas called on Democrats to end their “mindless, heartless filibuster” against the trafficking bill and thus break the entire logjam.
Even Hillary Clinton, a likely 2016 Democratic presidential candidate, joined the fray, suggesting in tweets that Republicans were waging a war on women by blocking the “first African-American woman for A.G.” and “threatening women’s health and rights.”
