Abrams could become the first African American woman governor in the United States

Georgia House minority leader Stacey Abrams, earlier this month filed paperwork to run for governor in 2018.

If she is successful, she could become the first African American woman governor in the United States.

Abrams is presently the first woman to lead a party in the Georgia House of Representatives.

According to the Nation, she is the favorite to win the Democratic nomination, given that black voters make up the a majority of all voters in the Democratic primary.

The 43-year-old Abrams has been a member of the Georgia House of Representatives since her election in 2006, and in 2011 she was elected her party’s leader. She is well liked, respected and known to work across the aisle.

She is a graduate of Yale Law School in addition to being an author.
