Former Massachusetts governor, Deval Patrick will not run for President in 2020
AP | Former Massachusetts governor, Deval Patrick, announced to a small tight-knit group of his strongest supporters Tuesday that he will not run for president.
A spokesman for Patrick said Tuesday night there was “nothing to announce right now. We are not making any announcements tomorrow.”
Patrick was Massachusetts’ first black governor and was believed to be among the more than 2 dozen Democrats whose names are being mentioned as potential White House contenders.
Forty percent of voters said Patrick would make a good president, while 57 percent said he would not, AP VoteCast, a nationwide survey of about 139,000 voters and nonvoters said in November.
Massachusetts Democratic U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren has said she will take a “hard look” at running for president in 2020.
In the November AP VoteCast survey, 57 percent of voters had a very or somewhat favorable opinion of Warren, while 39 percent had a very or somewhat unfavorable opinion of her. Asked whether Warren would make a good president, 62 percent of Massachusetts voters said no, while 36 percent said yes.
