Wimbledon 2015: Serena Williams beats Timea Babos to proceed to 3rd round

Thursday, July 2, 2015

WTA No.1., Serena Williams defeated hard-hitting Timea Babos in straight sets (6-4, 6-1) to move on to the third round of the 2015 edition of the Wimbledon tournament.

Williams’ aggression was apparent from the beginning both on her own serve and in her return game. Serena banged 12 aces by Babos after having just three in her first round match.

She also attacked Babos’ serves, which averaged 119 mph this tournament, with huge return attempts. Babos competed in the first set coming up just short to Serena with a 6-4 effort, but was no match for the Williams onslaught in the second set falling 6-1.

Williams’ returns were effective in pushing back Babos, but she also clipped the chair umpire with a wayward return effort in the second set that drew laughs from everyone.

Williams should feel better about her second round performance compared to her first match, and will now face hometown favorite Heather Watson of Great Britain in the third round.
