WHO declares Uganda Ebola-free

The World Health Organization (WHO) has officially declared Uganda Ebola-free, marking 42 days without a new case. This milestone contrasts sharply with neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo), which is currently grappling with the fastest-spreading Ebola outbreak on record.
Uganda recorded 20 cases – primarily travelers from the DR Congo – and two deaths. The WHO commended Ugandan health authorities for swiftly containing the virus and preventing onward transmission after the last confirmed patient was discharged on July 16, 2026.
Meanwhile, the DR Congo has reported over 5,600 confirmed cases and 2,700 deaths since mid-May, severely straining regional health infrastructure.
