WesternUnion.ng Launches In Nigeria

The Western Union Company says it has launched a new website in Nigeria, which represents the first receive-enabled Western Union website globally. With the new website, consumers of the leading global payment service provider can receive funds from over 200 countries and territories at nearly 5,000 Western Union retail Agent locations in the country or by just visiting www.WesternUnion.ng to direct the funds into a bank account with any of the following banks: Guaranty Trust Bank, Skye Bank, Stanbic IBTC Bank and Wema Bank.
“We are happy to announce that Western Union services in Nigeria are continuing to evolve in keeping with the changing needs of consumers,” the company’s Regional Vice President for Africa, Aida Diarra stated. The stress of going to a Western Union agent before receiving money has now been eliminated with the new website as consumers only need to log on to the website and direct funds sent to them via Western Union to their personal accounts.
According to Diarra, Western Union was supporting Central Bank of Nigeria’s objective of providing modern and efficient payment systems for consumers in the country by pioneering a new digital channel through its website. “Western Union is growing its network and increasing consumer access to our services worldwide,” said Khalid Fellahi, senior vice president and general manager, Western Union Digital.
Fellahi explained that the company’s online services in Nigeria were launched in cooperation with Interswitch Limited, adding that “Western Union will continue to explore opportunities that facilitate financial inclusion and increase speed to market for new money transfer services in key regions around the world.”
