United Way Jamaica funds for Haiti to be availed

Tuesday, March 20, 2012
The first tranche of United Way’s 2012 support of restoration efforts in Haiti will be presented to the Salvation Army on March 22.
The US$ 16,150 represents the micro-credit component of the restoration project valued at US$ 55,000.
This initial sum is earmarked to improve the economic stability of 80 farmers who will receive seedlings for crops and pigs for breeding. One hundred and twenty women will also receive training in business techniques and be given micro-credit loans to increase their stocks for sale in local markets.
Following the earthquake which devastated Haiti in January 2010, the United Way of Jamaica and United Way Worldwide launched an appeal for support to assist with emergency and restoration efforts.
