UMBC launches Hrabowski fund for innovation

In 2011, University of Maryland-Baltimore County (UMBC) President Freeman A. Hrabowski received the Carnegie Corporation of New York’s Academic Leadership Award, one of the highest honors given to an educator.

The award included a US$500,000 grant.

Dr. Hrabowski decided to utilize the grant to promote innovation, entrepreneurship and student success at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County.

The Hrabowski fund for Innovation has been established to endow academic initiatives which stem from the Carnegie grant. Since the start of the fall semester, hundreds of people in Maryland and in the United States have dedicated time, and resources, US$3 million of which will be directed specifically towards the fund.

This fund will sustain and drive the UMBC culture of innovation by amongst others invest in student initiatives, staff and faculty.
