Tropical disturbance continues to develop as it approaches the Caribbean

Tropical depression could be forming 725 miles west-southwest of the Cape Verde Islands.

According to a recent advisory from the National Hurricane Centre (NHC), the system is expected to move toward the west or west-northwest at about 15MPH.

The disturbance is located near 9.6 N 37.2 W and there is a 90% chance the system will become a tropical cyclone in the next 48 hours the NHC bulletin said.

The NHC indicated that a tropical depression may form later today.

Philip J. Klotzbach and William M. Gray of the Department of Atmospheric Science, Colorado State University report that the 2011 hurricane season has been forecasted to have a well above average probability of United States and Caribbean major hurricane landfall.
