Trinidad & Tobago Prime Minister Stuart Young Announces General Election for April 28, 2025

Thursday, March 20, 2025

Newly appointed Prime Minister Stuart Young has announced that a general election will be held on April 28, 2025, just one day after being sworn in as the country’s eighth head of government.

Young assumed office following the resignation of Keith Rowley, who had served as prime minister for several years. By dissolving Parliament and calling for early elections, Young seeks to consolidate his leadership and secure a fresh mandate from the electorate.

This election will be particularly significant as it will be the first conducted under the newly redrawn constituency boundaries established by the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC).

Trinidad & Tobago’s upcoming vote is one of several elections taking place across the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) in 2025. With elections already held in Anguilla, the Turks & Caicos Islands, Belize, and Bermuda, other nations, including Suriname, Guyana, Jamaica, and Curaçao, are set to follow.
