Trinidad & Tobago opposition urges PM Kamla Persad-Bissessar to call elections

The leader of Trinidad & Tobago’s opposition People’s National Movement (PNM) party, Keith Rowley has urged the Kamla Persad-Bissessar administration to announce the date that the general elections will be held.
In an address to mark the 59th anniversary of the party, Rowley accused the administration of “piggy backing” on some existing PNM policies, programs and projects.
“The list is incalculable. But I know that now is not the time to go into any further detail. We will deal with them on the campaign trail, I serve fair warning to those on the other side – come clean and come straight and above all call elections now. The PNM is ready, we are ready.”
Rowley pointed to the work done by the PNP in developing a master policy framework geared towards advancing the future growth and development of the country.
Concerning the economy, the opposition leader warned of perilous times and promised that the PNM will level with citizens.
“The economic scenario worldwide brought about by the drastic decline in oil and gas prices tells the story. This is no time for fooling around and not leveling with our citizenry. PNM will come clean, come clear, come honest and come straight. They are the only principles we know,” he added.
Kamla Persad-Bissessar and her United National Congress (UNC) party have been in power since an electoral victory in May 2010.
