Timothy Antoine named new governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank

The permanent secretary in Grenada’s ministry of finance, Timothy Antoine, has been named the new governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB). He replaces the retired Sir Dwight Venner who spent 26 years at the helm of the bank.
Antoine has served as Grenada’s Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance for 14 years, and will officially assume office on February 1.
He edged out the other top-ranked candidate in interviews conducted by the Eastern Caribbean Monetary Council – the ECCB’s highest decision making body, according to a release from the St. Kitts & Nevis-based bank.
In welcoming Antoine, Anguilla’s Chief Minister Victor Banks, who is Chairman of the Eastern Caribbean Monetary Council, said the incoming governor is “an outstanding Caribbean professional with a clear vision for the ECCB and demonstrated commitment to the development of the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union”.
Antoine has significant regulatory experience as a member of the ECCB Board for 12 years and as Chairman of the Grenada Authority for the Regulation of Financial Institutions for the past 7 years. He is also the Chairman of the Technical Core Committee on Insurance for the ECCU.
He has served as director on several regional boards including the Caribbean Development Bank and the Caribbean Catastrophe Risk Insurance Facility and also served as adviser to the Executive Director for Canada, Ireland and the Caribbean at the World Bank Group from 2005-2007.
Antoine’s predecessor Sir Dwight retired on November 30, 2015 from the position he held since December 1989. -(CMC)
