Terence Crawford, the undisputed super middleweight champion and one of boxing’s most technically gifted fighters, has announced his retirement – capping a flawless 42-0 career with a historic victory over Saul “Canelo” Álvarez.

The 38-year-old from Omaha, Nebraska, revealed his decision in a social media video Tuesday, three months after outclassing Álvarez in Las Vegas to claim the WBA, IBF, and WBO titles. Crawford was stripped of the WBC belt earlier this month over a dispute on sanctioning fees, but remains the recognized undisputed champion in the eyes of most boxing authorities.

“I’m stepping away from competition – not because I’m done fighting, but because I’ve won a different kind of battle,” Crawford said. “The one where you walk away on your own terms.”

Known for his precision, ring IQ, and southpaw versatility, Crawford retires without a single official knockdown or loss on his record. Judges never once scored a round for an opponent across his 42 fights – 31 of which ended in knockouts.

Crawford turned professional in 2008 and captured his first world title in 2014 by defeating Scotland’s Ricky Burns for the WBO lightweight belt. He went on to win world championships in five weight classes and accumulate 18 major titles – the pinnacle being his unanimous decision over Álvarez, widely hailed as a masterclass in tactical dominance.

“Every fighter knows this moment will come,” Crawford said. “I spent my life chasing a feeling – not belts or headlines, but the satisfaction of proving everyone wrong, again and again.”

His retirement closes a three-decade career defined not just by victory, but by integrity, consistency, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Crawford leaves the ring as one of the sport’s rare undefeated legends – and arguably the greatest boxer of his generation.
