St. Lucia will hold its next general election on Monday, December 1, 2025, Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre announced in a televised address on Sunday evening.

Pierre confirmed that he has advised the Governor General to dissolve Parliament on Monday, November 10, formally triggering the campaign period. Nomination Day is scheduled for Friday, November 21, 2025.

“I am confident that we have delivered on what we promised,” Pierre said, adding that the country would continue “the normal business of government and governance” during the transition period.

The decision ends weeks of speculation and sets the stage for what observers expect to be one of St. Lucia’s most competitive elections in years. Pierre’s St. Lucia Labour Party (SLP), which came to power in July 2021, will seek a second term against the United Workers Party (UWP), led by former Prime Minister Allen Chastanet.

The campaign is expected to focus on economic stability, rising living costs, crime, youth employment, health care, and infrastructure development—issues that have dominated public discourse.

The UWP has criticized the government’s handling of national security and inflation, while the SLP argues it has steered the nation through global economic turbulence and protected vulnerable households.

With Parliament dissolved, both major parties are set to mobilize their campaign machinery in the coming days. Independent candidates and smaller movements are also expected to join the race. The Electoral Department will release voting logistics and regulations in due course.

Political analysts say the election will serve as a referendum on the Pierre administration’s performance, particularly on economic management, transparency, and national unity.
