Serena Williams is no media closet case. But who knew she was an obsessive Olympic pin collector?
The 30-year-old American should add to her collection this summer in London, but filling a gaping hole in her trophy case is more pressing.
Williams owns 13 Grand Slam singles championships, including four on Wimbledon’s grass (2002-03, 2009-10), the venue for the 2012 Olympics. But she has yet to win a medal in singles; she missed the Games in 2004 because of injuries and lost to eventual winner Elena Dementieva in the quarterfinals in Beijing in 2008.
Not that her case is bare of Olympic memorabilia — Serena owns gold medals in doubles with older sister Venus Williams from 2008 and the 2000 Sydney Games.
