World number one Serena Williams on Saturday defeated Victoria Azarenka 6-4, 7-5 to win the Brisbane International.
Williams’ victory sends out a message to her competition – that she is capable of possibly backing up a remarkable 2013 in which she won 2 grand slams and a career-best 11 titles.
The win in Brisbane gives Williams a 58th career title, and it is a blow to the confidence of Azarenka, as she plots to win the Australian Open.
