Saratoga Springs Mayor Mia Love wants another shot to challenge Democratic U.S. Rep. Jim Matheson in 2014.

Love made the announcement Saturday while addressing delegates at the Utah Republican Party’s annual organizing convention.

Love narrowly lost to Matheson last November in one of the country’s most heavily GOP districts.

The race was one of the most expensive in Utah history, with the candidates spending a combined US$11.2 million.

Had Love won the election, she would have become the first black, female Republican elected to Congress.

Love had previously filed a statement of candidacy with the Federal Election Commission and said she was seriously considering another run, but had not made an official announcement until Saturday.
