Cocoa Tea, the renowned reggae singer and songwriter, has passed away at the age of 65. Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness expressed condolences to his family, friends, and fans, highlighting his iconic tracks like “Rocking Dolly” and “I Lost My Sonia,” which have become cultural anthems.

Cocoa Tea’s wife, Malvia Scott, confirmed his death from cardiac arrest early Tuesday morning in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Born Calvin George Scott in Rocky Point, Jamaica, he gained fame locally before achieving international recognition in the ’90s with his smooth vocals and socially conscious lyrics.

Diagnosed with lymphoma in 2019, Cocoa Tea’s health deteriorated after battling pneumonia six months ago. His wife shared his positive attitude despite his struggles, noting his hopeful spirit even in the face of adversity.

A devout Rastafarian since 1985, Cocoa Tea’s music emphasized love, peace, and kindness. Holness praised him for his generosity and global impact, acknowledging his role in elevating Jamaica’s musical presence worldwide.
