REDjet to introduce Jamaica airline

Barbados based budget carrier, REDjet are on track to start a Jamaican Airline. This was revealed by the Chief Executive Officer, Ian Burns who indicated that the carrier hopes to receive approval from the Jamaica government in 2012.

Air Jamaica no longer exists. It was sold to the Trinidad and Tobago-based Caribbean Airlines (CAL) in May, leaving the Jamaica government with a 16 percent stake.

The CEO said the proposed airline will trade as REDjet, though it will be majority-owned by Jamaicans.
