African American entrepreneurs must be willing to forge partnerships and joint ventures in order to thrive in today’s business marketplace, said Randal Pinkett, who in 2005 became the first African American to win “The Apprentice,” Donald Trump’s NBC reality show.

The economic downturn forced companies to realize the value of teaming up to cut costs and remain competitive, something Pinkett said many African American business owners have not embraced.

“Now more than ever, size matters,” Pinkett said during a keynote address at The Club during the Birmingham Business Alliance’s 26th annual African American Business Council Luncheon today. “It’s harder for small companies to compete.”
