Financial guru, Eddie C. Brown is the founder, Chairman and CEO of Brown Capital Management – oldest African-American owned investment management firms in the United States.

Mr. Brown founded the company in 1983, and under his stewardship, Brown Capital Management has grown and by December 2012 that amassed more than US$6 Billion under management.

Mr. Brown who has more than 40 years of investment experience served as a Vice President and portfolio manager for 10 years at T. Rowe Price Associates immediately prior to starting his own firm in 1983.

According to the company’s website, Brown Capital Management seeks to provide the exceptional investment returns and has proved to be the right investment manager for sophisticated investors who seek close client relationships and customized investment management solutions.

Brown, who had very humble beginnings, is a generous philanthropist, he and his wife Sylvia have donated millions of dollars to various charitable causes, In 2002, The Brown family announced the creation of the Turning the Corner Achievement Program (TCAP), an educational initiative for African-American middle school students in Baltimore.

Eddie C. Brown is an alumnus of the Howard University where he earned his Bachelors in Electrical Engineering, the New York University, where he earned his Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering and the Indiana University, where he earned his MBA.

He is a holder of numerous awards: The Black Enterprise 40 most powerful African Americans in Business; the Baltimore Business Journal Businessperson of the Year 2002; Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year in the financial services 2003; In April of 2004, he was inducted into the Maryland Chamber of Commerce Business Hall of Fame. In 2006, he was awarded by Maryland Life Magazine as the Marylander of Distinction Award, and 2010 selected by the Sellinger School of Business, Loyola University the Business Leader of the Year.

He has also authored an autobiographical book titled Beating the Odds: Eddie Brown’s Investing and Life Strategies that was released early 2011.
