Peabo Bryson, the Grammy-winning R&B singer known for “Beauty and the Beast” and “A Whole New World,” died April 14 after a stroke. He was 75.

His family said Bryson passed away Tuesday evening, days after the stroke. “While our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing how deeply Peabo was loved,” the family’s statement read.

The two-time Grammy winner, born in South Carolina, began his solo career in the 1970s. He recorded for Capitol, Elektra and Columbia, and became a sought-after duet partner with Celine Dion, Regina Belle, Roberta Flack and Natalie Cole. His 1980s hit “Tonight, I Celebrate My Love” with Flack remains a classic.

Beyond music, Bryson appeared in stage productions including “The Wiz” and “Porgy and Bess.” He released his 21st studio album, “Stand for Love,” in 2018.

Memorial plans will be announced later. The family requests privacy.
