OneUnited Bank Honors Winners of 15th Annual “I Got Bank!” Youth Financial Literacy Contest

OneUnited Bank, the largest Black-owned bank in the United States, has announced the winners of its 15th annual “I Got Bank! Youth Financial Literacy Essay & Art Contest.” This year, ten talented youth were recognized, each receiving a US$1,000 savings account to help jumpstart their financial futures.
The contest celebrates young voices exploring the importance of financial literacy. Winners shared personal reflections on their financial learning journeys and how these lessons can positively impact their families.
A distinguished panel of judges evaluated the submissions, including OneUnited Bank President and Chief Operating Officer Teri Williams, and Senior Vice President and Chief Retail Officer Sherri Brewer.
“In 2025, we saw remarkable growth in children’s understanding of money, from everyday expenses like food to larger financial concepts,” said President Williams. “Many expressed a desire to support their families, which may reflect the current economic climate. We are proud to spark family conversations about money – conversations that will strengthen financial wellbeing for generations to come.”
Williams is also the author of “I Got Bank! What My Grandad Taught Me About Money”, a book inspired by her passion for improving financial literacy among urban youth.
The “I Got Bank!” contest is part of OneUnited Bank’s broader mission to make financial literacy a cornerstone of American education. Past winners, their stories, and contest insights can be explored on the OneUnited Bank Financial Literacy Blog.
In addition, OneUnited Bank offers a comprehensive Financial Education Center, featuring online learning playlists on topics such as Financial Basics, Major Life Decisions, Starting a Career, Small Business, and Preventing Elder Fraud. Through these initiatives, the bank aims to equip both children and adults across the nation with critical money management skills.
