Merck CEO Kenneth C. Frazier resigns from Trumps’s American Manufacturing Council

Merck & Co Inc. CEO Kenneth C. Frazier resigned from U.S. President Donald Trump’s American Manufacturing Council on Monday, saying he was taking a stand against intolerance and extremism.
Frazier’s resignation comes shortly after a violent confrontation between white supremacists and protesters in Charlottesville, Virginia, that left one person dead and 19 injured.
Frazier said in a tweet on Monday that the country’s leaders must “honor our fundamental values by clearly rejecting expressions of hatred, bigotry and group supremacy.”
President Trump is being criticized for not explicitly condemning the white nationalists who marched in Charlottesville.
Frazier is one of the most prominent black corporate executives in the United States and was the only black male CEO named to the council in January.
