LIAT resumes operations as pilots end industrial action

Monday, June 12, 2017

The 3-day strike by Caribbean airline Leeward Islands Air Transport (LIAT) ended over the weekend, with a deal struck with the pilot’s union.

Representatives of the pilots association (LIALPA) ended their dispute with their employees over pay rises.

According to the Antigua Observer, Captain Carl Burke, president of LIALPA, confirmed that a consent order was signed with LIAT’s acting CEO Julie Reifer-Jones.
The consent order details an agreement on the payment terms for extra pay to fly the larger aircraft and retroactive pay in addition to the salary package arrangement agreed upon in January this year.

The consent order has been formalized at the Industrial Court, where LIAT had earlier filed an application for a court injunction to force pilots back to work. -(CMC)
