LIAT: Pilots back on the job – warn of further industrial action

Thursday, December 8, 2011

(Barbados Nation) – After two days of sickout action, Leeward Islands Air Transport (LIAT) pilots were expected back in the cockpit today, but have served notice of even more industrial action on their radar.

In a letter, the airline’s pilots’ association LIALPA reminded LIAT’s management of its intention to take industrial action in their dispute over pension payments if certain action was not taken by the company by December 15.

They also branded as “unlawful” Monday’s sacking of LIALPA’s lead spokesman, Captain Michael Blackburn – the action that led to their sickout.

Last night LIAT’s management was reported to be trying to get a working arrangement with competitors Caribbean Airways of Trinidad and Tobago and REDjet, based in Barbados, to get stranded LIAT passengers to their destinations.
