L.A. City Council elects First African American president

Councilman Herb Wesson Jr. (pictured), has been named as the new president of the Los Angeles City Council as the current president announced that he would step aside to seek a higher role in the city’s government.

Wesson, 60, is the first African American president of the council in its 161 year history.
