Kenya Airways CEO Allan Kilavuka Departs After Steering Carrier to Profitability

Allan Kilavuka is stepping down as CEO of Kenya Airways after six years, marking the end of a tenure defined by a dramatic financial turnaround.
Kilavuka, who is now on terminal leave ahead of his contract’s expiration, led the national carrier through the pandemic and ended an 11-year streak of losses – delivering its first profit in more than a decade. The airline’s board credited him with restoring operational viability, boosting revenues, and expanding cargo volumes.
Effective immediately, Chief Operating Officer Captain George Kamal assumes the role of acting group managing director and CEO as the board launches a search for a permanent successor. Kenya Airways said it remains committed to its broader turnaround plan, including the pursuit of a strategic investor.
