U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris delivered a concession speech to the nation after a hard-fought campaign that ultimately failed to prevent Republican Donald Trump from reclaiming the presidency.

“While I concede this election, I do not concede the fight that inspired this campaign,” Harris stated passionately to supporters gathered at Howard University, her alma mater and one of the nation’s prominent historically Black colleges, on Wednesday.

Harris reaffirmed her dedication to championing women’s rights, addressing gun violence, and upholding the dignity of all individuals. She shared that she had called President-elect Trump to offer her congratulations and pledged to assist in a seamless transition of power.

Harris became the Democratic nominee in July following President Biden’s decision to step back, bringing a fresh wave of enthusiasm and funding to the campaign. Despite these efforts, she faced hurdles due to voter concerns on issues like the economy and immigration.

Trump achieved a decisive victory, surpassing his 2020 performance with increased support nationwide. Key battleground states turned red, delivering a significant win for Republicans.

On Tuesday night, thousands had gathered at Howard University, hopeful for a historic win for the first woman president. By Wednesday, they returned to honor Harris and demonstrate their enduring support.
