Jay-Z’s Shawn Carter Foundation partners with Wharton to launch a financial education program for HBCUs

The Shawn Carter Foundation, founded by Jay-Z and his mother, Gloria Carter, has partnered with the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania to launch the Champions for Financial Legacy initiative.
This program is designed to empower students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and nearby communities by providing essential skills to manage personal finances in real-world settings.
Drawing inspiration from Bridges to Wealth, a financial education and wealth-building initiative led by Wharton professor Keith Weigelt, the new program focuses on enhancing students’ financial literacy and encouraging them to apply their knowledge to foster community wealth.
According to the Shawn Carter Foundation, the curriculum includes “real-world applications and service-learning components, enabling students to apply their financial expertise in community contexts, thus expanding the wealth-building ecosystem and promoting local development.”
