Jamaica’s PM leads CARICOM mission to Haiti

Jamaica’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness left the island nation Monday morning to lead a special CARICOM mission to Haiti.

According to a media release from the Office of the Prime Minister, Holness, and the CARICOM delegation members are expected to meet with a number of crucial Haitian stakeholder groups.

The mission includes representatives from Trinidad & Tobago, the Bahamas, and the CARICOM Secretariat.

Other Jamaican delegation members include Jamaica’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Kamina Johnson Smith, and Ambassador Rocky Meade.

Holness previously indicated that Jamaica would be willing to be a part of a multinational security team that would be sent to help stabilize Haiti torn by gang violence.

The Prime Minister is expected to return to Jamaica on Monday evening.

During his absence, Deputy Prime Minister Horace Chang will oversee the government. -(CMC)
