Jamaica: Venture Capital Program to be launched September

Jamaica is set to host its first-ever venture capital conference this coming September.
The Jamaica Venture Capital Program (JVCP) is to be launched on September 9, during a special conference being hosted by the Development Bank of Jamaica (DBJ), in the island-nation’s capital, Kingston.
According to the Chairman of the DBJ, Joseph Matalon, he activities being undertaken by the bank for the program’s implementation over the next three years, will be unveiled during the conference, being held under the theme: ‘Advancing Innovation and Entrepreneurship – Seeding Tomorrow’s Opportunities’.
The Jamaica Venture Capital Program is an initiative of the Simpson-Miller administration, aimed at developing the environment to mobilize equity funding to enable greater access to alternative financing sources for high potential, small and medium size enterprises, and entrepreneurs.
The administration argues that the creation of the Venture Capital Program will in the medium to long term create jobs and positively impact on economic growth in Jamaica.
