Jamaica Public Service Company faces audit

The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) is presently undergoing an independent audit.
The audit is being conducted by accounting firm PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) who were conducted by the JPS following customer complaints regarding a high spike in their bills after the installation of the new meters.
The scope of the audit includes:
Reviewing procedures for installing and maintaining the new digital meters, to determine if they were in keeping with international best practices;
Review meter certification and testing procedures;
Review and compare trends in kilowatt-hour consumption for customers with replaced meters, for the period before and after the meter replacement;
Examine the rationale for adjustments, where adjustments were done after meters were replaced;
Select and investigate a sample of complaints relating to the new meters; and
Review post-installation quality management and monitoring practices.
It is expected that that the audit is to be completed by early October and findings will be made public.
