Jamaica: Police – gang dispute results in 2 dead, 3 wounded at JLP rally

Monday, February 8, 2016

Police say 2 men have been shot dead and 3 others have been wounded at a crowded rally of Jamaica’s main opposition party.

The Jamaica Constabulary Force has not released a motive, only saying the shooting followed a “dispute” between people who attended the late Sunday political rally in Montego Bay.

A Monday police statement says no shots were fired at a podium where Jamaica Labor Party leader Andrew Holness was speaking at the time. He was hustled off the stage.

Investigators on Monday identified one of the dead men as a local gang member.

Jamaica will hold general elections on February 25.
