Jamaica market important to Caribbean Airlines – Trinidad & Tobago

In a bid to reduce the fallout from Jamaica’s possible withdrawal of the Air Jamaica brand from Caribbean Airlines, Trinidad & Tobago has said that it has not sought to downplay the importance of the Jamaica market.
Caribbean Airlines is set to reduce the number of daily flights to Jamaica effective today.
Trinidad & Tobago Trade and Industry Minister Vasant Bharath told the Caribbean Media Corporation that a number of issues, including load factors, had caused the carrier to re-examine some of its policies.
Jamaica’s Transport Minister Dr. Omar Davis said the decision by the cash-strapped carrier would contradict the agreement signed when Caribbean Airlines acquired Air Jamaica two years ago.
Davies said the only tangible weapon the government has relates to the use of the Air Jamaica brand. However, Bharath said “we believe the Air Jamaica brand has value that was the reason we went into the arrangement in the first instance. – (CMC)
