There is a possibility that Jamaica’s opposition party, the Jamaica Labor Party (JLP) may be host to a leadership “competition”, with incumbent leader, former Prime Minister Andrew Holness facing a challenge for the position from the seasoned Audley Shaw.

In May this year, Shaw sought to quell any speculation that he would challenge Holness at the party’s next annual conference this coming November.

Shaw put aside his personal ambition in 2005 to allow Bruce Golding to replace Edward Seaga as leader of the party and did so again in 2011 enabling Holness replace Golding, when the latter stepped down as leader of the Jamaica Labor Party, following his resignation as Prime Minister.

Holness intends to defend his position robustly as indicated in the recent rhetoric.
