IDC says Kenyan enterprises prioritize cloud solutions

Nearly a third of Kenyan enterprises view the implementation of cloud services and expansion of existing cloud infrastructure as a priority for the future, according to a research report. The report, compiled by the International Data Corporation (IDC), says the adoption of cloud technologies and hosting services could gain traction in the East African nation provided that connectivity prices fall and consistent bandwidth is maintained.
Titled ‘Cloud and Hosting: Trends, Priorities, and Insights in Kenya 2013 Survey Results’, the IDC research is an overview of Kenya’s latest cloud and hosting trends and priorities. The IDC says the report’s insights are based on research with technology leads in various small-medium businesses (SMBs) and large organizations ,as well as interviews with service providers.
“Stable and reliable connectivity will be a key value proposition if service providers are to convince enterprises to move the majority of their IT services to the cloud,” said research analyst for telecoms and media at IDC East Africa, Leonard Kore, in a statement. Kore added, “The majority of enterprises in Kenya view infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) solutions as a more attractive offering than a software-as-a-service (SaaS) solutions as they give more clear and quantifiable return on investment (RIO) especially in the data center realm.”
Furthermore, half of Kenyan enterprises are contemplating adopting IaaS technology in the future based on the growing need for easier monitoring, control of data center expenditure and cutting-edge security solutions in the cloud, a statement from the IDC reads. “Enterprises are increasingly viewing the availability of data assets and business operations as a critical need for their bottom line,” Kore concluded.
