Haiti to levy fees on airspace usage

Haiti’s government has recently announced plans to impose air navigation fees on all aircraft passing through its airspace. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to improve the country’s aviation infrastructure and boost national revenue.
To support this plan, authorities have installed advanced radar systems at key locations across the country, all of which are connected to the control tower at Toussaint Louverture International Airport. These new systems are expected to significantly enhance the oversight and management of Haiti’s airspace by providing real-time data to air traffic controllers.
This will improve the safety and security of both domestic and international flights. With these upgrades, aircraft tracking will become more efficient, helping to ensure smoother and more organized air traffic operations.
Toussaint Louverture International Airport, Haiti’s main point of international entry located in Port-au-Prince, was closed from March to May 2024 due to escalating gang violence. The airport reopened on May 20, 2024, following major security measures, including the demolition of hundreds of homes used by gangs to launch attacks on the airport. -(CMC)
