Haiti Sets August 2026 Election Date

Haiti’s Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) has published a revised electoral calendar, setting the first round of long-delayed legislative and presidential elections for August 30, 2026. The timetable, released in Le Moniteur following the December 1 Electoral Decree issued by the Presidential Transitional Council, outlines the full process from candidate registration to final certification.
Under the plan, campaigning for the first round will run from May 19 to August 28, 2026, with final first-round results due on October 3. A second round of voting, alongside local elections, is scheduled for December 6, 2026.
Final presidential and legislative results are expected on January 7, 2027, followed by local election results on January 20.
The CEP cautioned that the schedule hinges on two conditions: improved security and adequate financing.
The council also stressed that securing sufficient funding is essential to manage both routine operations and emergency disruptions. Civic education and preparatory activities began last month, extending the electoral process into early 2027.
