Haiti: Alix Didier Fils-Aimé sworn in as new Prime Minister

Wednesday, November 13, 2024
Haiti’s new interim Prime Minister, Alix Didier Fils-Aimé, was sworn in Monday as violence surged in Port-au-Prince. During his inauguration, he emphasized restoring security as key to the country’s transition, including protecting people, property, infrastructure, food security, and movement freedom.
A former president of Haiti’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Fils-Aimé assumes office amid challenges, including corruption allegations against three members of the transitional council meant to guide the nation back to democracy.
Previously a Senate candidate in 2015 and a Boston University graduate, Fils-Aimé was considered a private sector candidate for the role before Garry Conille’s term.
