Guyana Cabinet to determine LIAT 2020’s application for operations

The cabinet of Guyana is set to evaluate the application of the new airline, LIAT 2020, which aims to begin operations in Guyana within the next few weeks. This airline was created following the collapse of LIAT 1974 and has already started servicing several Caribbean destinations.
As part of its expansion strategy, LIAT 2020 is actively looking into additional routes to broaden its service offerings across the region.
Egbert Field, the head of the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA), confirmed to Guyana News Source that the airline’s application has been officially received and is currently under review by the GCAA. To promote transparency and gather feedback from the community, the GCAA has recently issued a public notice regarding the airline’s application, inviting the public to submit any comments or objections they may have concerning the proposed operations.
Reports suggest that several objections have been raised; however, it is crucial to highlight that these concerns primarily pertain to the operations of the former LIAT airline, not the new entity.
LIAT 2020 is headquartered in Antigua & Barbuda, where the government holds a majority stake. This new airline aims to rejuvenate air travel in the Caribbean and offer dependable services for both passengers and cargo, filling some of the voids left by its predecessor.
As the review process progresses, stakeholders and the public are closely monitoring how this development will influence regional air travel and connectivity. -(CMC)
