Former Walgreens CEO Rosalind Brewer appointed to the Board of Directors at the Black Economic Alliance

Rosalind “Roz” Brewer has joined the Board of Directors of the Black Economic Alliance (BEA), dedicating her efforts to enhancing financial empowerment within the Black community.
Expressing her commitment, Brewer stated, “BEA has a uniquely powerful mandate to expand Black economic power and prosperity. From my leadership experiences spanning HBCU campuses to the boardrooms of corporate America, I understand first-hand the inextricable link between Black economic advancement and the growth of the entire American economy. I am honored and excited to work with BEA’s Board and leadership and lend my expertise to BEA’s next phase of impact.”
This move comes following her departure as CEO of Walgreens Boots Alliance in September 2023. Despite leaving Walgreens, where she made history as the third Black woman to lead a Fortune 500 company, Brewer brings significant business acumen to the table.
Her impressive background includes serving as Chief Operating Officer at Starbucks Coffee Company and holding leadership roles at Walmart. Notably, during her tenure at the world’s largest coffee chain, she spearheaded the implementation of racial bias training across over 8,000 store locations.
Brewer’s distinguished career trajectory and commitment to shattering racial barriers in the business world resonate with BEA’s mission and values. Samantha Tweedy, the organization’s CEO, expressed enthusiasm for Brewer’s involvement in advancing their objectives.
“Roz has spent her trailblazing career breaking down barriers to Black economic advancement,” Tweedy shared. “She has championed BEA’s priorities of advancing Black work, wages, and wealth at some of the world’s most influential companies, and I look forward to her vision and expertise accelerating BEA’s efforts and impact.”
Beyond her new role with BEA, Brewer serves on other prominent boards, including United Airlines and the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African-American History and Culture. Through her participation, she will contribute her expertise as BEA continues to foster cohesion among Black business leaders.
