Friday, April 11, 2025

The Airport Authority of Trinidad & Tobago (AATT) announced on Friday that flights at Piarco International Airport (PIA) have been temporarily suspended due to a fire that broke out at the Amerijet warehouse facility located in the airport’s south terminal.

While the exact cause of the fire remains undisclosed, emergency response teams were quick to act. According to a statement from the AATT, the Piarco Fire Station responded immediately, with additional support provided by units from the Arima Fire Station.

Their swift intervention brought the blaze under control, averting further escalation.

“Flight operations at Piarco International Airport have been temporarily suspended in accordance with established emergency protocols,” the AATT said. “Operations will resume as soon as clearance is granted by the Trinidad & Tobago Fire Service and the Trinidad & Tobago Civil Aviation Authority.”

Passengers have been urged to contact their respective airlines for updates, as delays are expected due to the temporary closure of the runway. The AATT emphasized its commitment to collaborating closely with all stakeholders to ensure the safe and secure resumption of flight services as soon as possible.

The incident has caused significant disruption, but authorities remain focused on restoring normalcy while prioritizing safety at the airport. Travelers are advised to stay informed through official channels and monitor updates from their airlines regarding their travel plans.

As investigations into the cause of the fire continue, the AATT assured the public that every measure is being taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
