Dominica: Charles Savarin nominated by ruling party for Presidency

Dominica National Security Minister Charles Savarin (pictured), has resigned from the Cabinet. His departure paves the way for his nomination as ruling party’s candidate for the post of President of Dominica.
Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit, speaking on the state-owned DBS radio on Thursday morning, said that Savarin’s name would be forwarded to the parliament ahead of the election of a new head of state on September 30.
The nomination of Savarin for the country’s presidency follows the withdrawal of Jennifer Wallace La Fond from the race bue to “personal reasons”. The president is the head of state, while executive power rests with the cabinet, headed by the prime minister. -(CMC)
