Coco Gauff Stages Thrilling Comeback to Claim Maiden French Open Title Over Aryna Sabalenka

Coco Gauff secured the first French Open singles title of her career in dramatic fashion, staging a stirring comeback to defeat world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in a high-stakes, emotionally charged final at Roland Garros.
The American second seed triumphed 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 6-4 in a seesaw battle between two of the WTA Tour’s elite players, overcoming both her opponent and the challenging conditions on the Parisian clay.
This victory marks Gauff’s second Grand Slam singles title, following her breakthrough win at the 2023 US Open – where she also defeated Sabalenka. The 20-year-old now solidifies her place among tennis’ upper echelon with a career-first triumph on the red dirt of Paris.
“I think this Grand Slam win was harder than the first because you don’t want to settle for just one,” said Gauff, reflecting on the pressure that comes with success.
Gauff got off to a shaky start, facing a double-break deficit early in the match. But as the contest progressed, she found her rhythm – and capitalized on an uncharacteristically error-prone performance from Sabalenka, who struggled to find consistency under pressure.
“This hurts a lot,” admitted Sabalenka, who was also vying for her maiden Roland Garros crown. “Congratulations to Coco – she played the better match today.”
Gauff’s journey to this moment has been years in the making. Her previous appearance in the French Open final came three years ago, when a teenage Gauff tearfully covered her face with a towel after falling short. Now, she returns not only as a Grand Slam champion but as a player who has fulfilled the immense promise she showed back then – with New York serving as just the beginning.
